Palace of the Grand Dukes

National Museum Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania

The Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania (Vilnius Lower Castle) was founded in 1530 by the Gediminas dynasty.
At the beginning of the 19th century, the palace of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was completely demolished.
On 6 July 2018, on the occasion of the centenary of the State of Lithuania, the fully restored palace was solemnly opened.

Facade Lighting

In cooperation with KORGAS team, the implementation of a large-scale lighting project took over 8 years. The most difficult part was to ensure the integrity of the project, while maintaining the technology of solutions in the same light spectrum. Moreover, in this project the grouping of luminaires with an option to adapt the lighting for various occasions is very important.
The durability of the luminaires is a significant aspect of the lighting of the facades and territory, because they are constantly exposed to atmospheric factors. A large part of the luminaires were installed in hardly accessible areas, so the models had to be fully weatherproof. That is why iGuzzini outdoor luminaires were selected; they are adapted to extremely harsh weather conditions, both high and low temperatures, and are dust and moisture resistant.

Lighting of Exhibitions and Halls

In large museums there is a constant change of expositions, exhibits of various sizes, dimensions, mounting points, etc. In addition, specific lighting requirements are often applied to museum objects made of certain material to unleash the beauty of the exhibit and not to make any damage to it.
That is why KORGAS light experts have prepared a package of the display lighting products that can be easily reassembled in different locations. Various accessories enable a user to change optics, customize controls, create ultra-precise beams with lenses, etc. As a result, when replacing exhibitions, the available lighting devices can be adapted to any type of exhibition.

Lighting Matching Specifics of Events

The palace is equipped with a state-of-the-art concert and event hall. The lighting requirements for this multifunctional space were extremely high as some events would be held in dusk, and in other cases the lighting level would be more than 1000lx. The luminaires mounted on the cofferdam ceilings create an extremely even illumination, while the control creates special scenes matching the specifics of the event.
The lighting of the patio and garden adjacent to the palace included certain lighting control solutions. As the main courtyard is often used for events, the lighting and control grouping are integral to creating a visual effect.
